Safe & Sound

You live in Asbo Pavilions, Jamie Thingy from the telly is making you eat salad, your school is full of zombies in hoodies, and your Dad's a pure berk. In other words, life would be a proper minger if you weren't also secretly a famous international superstar DJ. Welcome to the world of Safe & Sound by day, ordinary kids; By night, the top under-12's sound system in the North West…

‘Road’, ‘safety’: traditionally, two words to banish fun from the classroom. It’s not like we’re short of road safety resources, so why would anyone need another?

Too many of our young people are still being hurt and killed on the roads – and disproportionately, they come from disadvantaged wards. The world, for which existing resources were created, can seem very remote from the reality in which many of the region’s kids live... which is where Safe and Sound come in, not cute, not suburban, not sad. Safe and Sound is unique: it’s urban, it’s irreverent, and it’s actually fun... to watch and to teach.

The learning in Safe and Sound has been embedded into plotlines as part of an ongoing story. Familiar characters, catchphrases and running jokes build involvement and empathy, while communicating serious educational material in an entertaining, enjoyable and easily-digested format. Used together, the games and interactive review consolidate the key messages of the animation, deepen the focus on issues and stimulate classroom discussion – used independently, they target specific issues and offer specific learning outcomes.

Who’s in it, innit?

60,000 CD-ROMs have now been distributed to all of the target children as they prepare to go to 'big school' throughout the 16 NRSI areas. 175 bus streetliners are poised to trundle their way around Greater Manchester augmented by the in-bus ads and a Safe and Sound competition is about to go live on the website.

Update:
Further demand has now pushed the Safe & Sound CD numbers to 92,500...
