Channel 4 Learning 'Gridclub' website releases

STARDOTSTAR have developed part of the musical microsite 'Music Studio' for Channel 4 and the DfES (Department for Education and Science). As part of the GridClub website for schools aimed at 7-11 year olds, Music Studio teaches children to develop a musical ear through the aid of puzzles and games.

"We've tried to use a blend of the best existing technologies for the project," explained partner Gareth Langley.

"The file sizes created by using Flash or Director alone would have made the download times too long to be viable. We've used Director to control the whole application and a mixture of Flash, midi and MP3 to keep the size of the files deliverable without compromising on interactivity or game play."

"The real interactivity here takes place in the audiences' head as Music Studio teaches the user aspects of listening to and creating music" says Gez O'Brien the second partner of Stardotstar.

"This isn't a throwaway Flash based game with a vague nod at someones brand but a real learning experience delivered through the vernacular of gaming."

The project was commissioned by Big Heart TV for Channel 4, and created in association with Studio Tonne and Joe Berger.
